Kosoto Gake
Kosoto Gake - Small Outer Hook
kosoto Gake is classified as Ashi Waza (Foot/Leg Technique) in Judo.
Kosoto Gake involves "hooking" you leg around the back of your opponent's to be able to throw them.
Here's a basic breakdown of how Kosoto Gake is typically executed:
- Grip: On the sleeve and high on the lapel.
- Kuzushi (Off-balance): Step to the side of your opponent, breaking their balance to the back corner, using the sleeve and lapel grip.
- Entry: Hook your foot around the back of your opponent's weighted leg, bringing your leg passed the back of the knee, down towards the ankle.
- Execution: To finish the throw, reap the leg, drive through the lapel and pull on the sleeve, guiding your opponent on to their back in front of you.
Kosoto Gake requires precise timing, coordination, and proper use of leverage to be effective...otherwise you just end up sliding down your opponent leg and being countered.
