O Goshi
O Goshi - Large Hip Throw
O Goshi is classified as Koshi Waza (Hip Technique) in Judo.
O Goshi involves using the hip as a fulcrum to lift and throw the opponent over your hip.
Here's a basic breakdown of how O Goshi is typically executed:
- Grip: On the sleeve and around the back of your use (underneath their arm).
- Kuzushi (Off-balance): Draw your opponent forwards using the sleeve grip, breaking their balance to the front corner. Bring the hand on the lapel around the back, underneath your opponents arm.
- Entry: Pivot around, placing both of your feet, shoulder width a part, slightly in front your opponents. Bring your hips across the front of your opponent. Have a soft bend in your knees.
- Execution: To finish the throw, rotate through, keeping tension in the sleeve, bringing your opponent right over your hips, using the arm around the back to keep them tight.
O Goshi requires precise timing, coordination, and proper use of leverage to be effective.
